Mutual respect is a basic value at Aalborg Industries

31 January 2006

The past days of sentiments and actions towards Danes and Danish products by Muslims reacting to drawings/cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper in September 2005 are in our opinion most unfortunate and very far from the reality Aalborg Industries normally sees. Therefore, we find it appropriate to announce our attitude.

Aalborg Industries is a global company with subsidiaries in 13 countries around the world, and our employees, customers, suppliers and other co-operation partners represent many different people, creeds and cultures. Today, our communication and co-operation are conducted, no matter where we are located in the world, without any problems and with the due mutual respect towards one anothers' differences.

Aalborg Industries’  business is based on a set of basic values, and one of these is that we respect all people and cultural differences, i.e. also religious affiliation. For the past couple of years, these values have been published on our homepage. We consider these values a strength and guideline in our organisation and as being very essential for our way of doing business.

Aalborg Industries does not subscribe to the picture presented in the press at the time being. Freedom of expression is one of the basic values of the Danish society but does not relieve anyone of responsibility or respect for other peoples' attitudes. We distantiate ourselves from any offense or oppression committed in the name of culture or religion.

We hope that a reasonable solution to the present situation will be found soon and are confident that in spite of the situation we will be able to conduct our co-operation as usual with our employees, other co-operation partners, and not least our customers.

Yours faithfully

Aalborg Industries A/S
