Control & Safety
In addition to the combustion hardware offered in any offshore conversion or refurbishment project, Aalborg Industries also specialises in safety critical and process control systems for a wide range of applications.
Safety Systems
Due to the critical nature of these systems, there is a requirement for high integrity, high availability, high level of diagnostics, and engineered to be fail-safe. Hardware selection and engineering should meet internationally recognised codes and standards such as IEC 61508 and DIN 19250. Likewise, certification of safety systems should be made by independent, respected organisations, such as TÜV and Factory Mutual.
Burner Management Systems
The sole purpose of the BMS is to prevent furnace explosions in boilers, heaters and furnaces. Necessary features include separation from the process controls on multi-burner applications and hardwired trips via relays for critical trip functions. Desired features of such systems include system-operating code in EPROM and user application code in non-volatile memory, burners should be electrically isolatable from the master system and logic should be separated into these groups.
Process Control Systems
For general-purpose regulatory control applications, analog and digital process control or batching control may be conducted within a regular programmable controller. An ideal system would still have high availability as well as an open architecture, conformance to international standards and provide speed of operation when calculating analog loops.
Boiler Automatic Controls
This analog control system also includes the Automatic Combustion Control system and is dedicated to controlling the furnace combustion components (fuel and air) and boiler’s water level. Final superheated steam temperature is also included if the boiler’s output is used to supply steam turbines.
